National Parking Association Announces New Study at Big 10 Midwestern Universities Parking & Transportation Conference

"Parking in Perspective: The Size and Scope of Parking in America"

Washington, DC (May 10, 2011)—The National Parking Association has announced the release of a new research report: Parking in Perspective: The Size and Scope of Parking in America at the Big 10 Midwestern Universities Parking & Transportation Conference at the University of Indiana. NPA President Christine Banning, CAE, keynoted the convention with a speech on Parking Trends and Sustainable Mobility for the Future of Transportation.

Banning presented highlights of the upcoming research report, which studied the size and scope of U.S. parking operations by aggregating and analyzing public data and private research on the parking industry. The report answers a number of questions about market size, geographic distribution, number of employees, wages and number of facilities, and includes population projections.

"The National Parking Association undertook a major initiative to conduct an extensive research study to determine the general size, scope, segmentation, employment and distribution of the parking industry," said NPA President Christine Banning, CAE. "The report shows that parking will continue to play a greater role in our economy as more organizations see it as an opportunity to add value to the experience of their customers, and as a way to improve their bottom line by generating revenue and/or outsourcing parking operations."

The report found that the parking industry encompasses a wide range of segments, and that there is no single source for comprehensive market data on the entire industry. To develop a market picture based on unrelated data sets, a literature review was conducted analyzing data from a broad range of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Labor. The report's key findings will be released in early June.

Parking in Perspective is available to NPA members at no charge. Non-members can purchase the report for $99.
