National Parking Association Names John L. Fiegel, CAE, as Interim President

Washington, DC (January 25, 2010) – The National Parking Association, through an agreement with Transition Management Consulting, has named John L. Fiegel, CAE, as interim president, effective Jan. 19, 2010.

Fiegel has served as an association management leader for more than 20 years following a distinguished military career. He has worked with standalone organizations as well as providing services through association management companies.

“We are delighted to have someone of John’s caliber to lead us through this transition period,” said Herb Anderson, NPA chairman. “We feel strongly that his expertise and many years of association management experience will serve us well.”

Fiegel has provided interim executive leadership to a number of organizations in transition, including the Society for Competitive Intelligence Professionals, Destination ImagiNation and the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association.

Since 1988, Fiegel has served as executive director in more than 15 professional societies and trade associations, often simultaneously within association management companies, among them the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, International District Energy Association, and World Airline Entertainment Association.

Prior to his association career, Fiegel served in the U.S. Air Force, from which he ended his career as a lieutenant colonel. During most of his career, he served in the Pentagon on the Air Staff, in the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His specialties were international affairs, planning, programming and budgeting.

Fiegel earned his Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives. He holds a Master of Science degree in International Affairs from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Texas A&M University.

“I am excited to take the reins of the National Parking Association with its rich and proud tradition of service to the parking industry,” said Fiegel. “I look forward to working with the staff and meeting our members.”
