National Parking Association Honors Industry Icon Brett Harwood with First Leadership and Legends Awards

30-Year Parking Veteran is a Philanthropist and Former NPA Board Chair

Washington, DC (February 11, 2013)— The Board of Directors of the National Parking Association has established a national award to honor the contributions of industry leaders who have improved the parking industry and/or association. Brett Harwood is the first recipient of the NPA Leadership and Legends Award.

Harwood was recognized at NPA’s Winter Leadership Forum in February for his lifelong contributions to the parking industry and NPA. Harwood is a well-known ambassador of the parking industry who has and continues to mentor parking professionals. He is a founder and partner of Parking Advisory Group, LLC and Welcome Parking, LLC, which provide exceptional parking strategies nationally and management in the New York Metropolitan Area.

Harwood is a significant investor in parking facilities in the U.S. through Harwood Properties and other entities. Prior to its sale to Central Parking, Brett was president and director of Square Industries, Inc., where he directed 1,200 employees and revenue in excess of $100 million. He is a former president and chair of the National Parking Association, Washington, D.C.

A former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Liberty Health System, Harwood led Jersey City Medical Center—which provides safety net hospital services and trauma care for the region—through a fiscal revamp that started in 2006. He also served as chairman of a capital campaign to develop the Wilzig Hospital, a 330-bed facility at Jersey City Medical Center.

Harwood earned his J.D. from Temple University and clerked for the Honorable Marshall Selikoff, Superior Court of New Jersey. He formerly practiced bankruptcy law.

“Brett Harwood embodies a spirit of mentorship, bettering the industry and developing the next generation of leaders throughout the parking industry and NPA.” says NPA President Christine Banning, CAE. “Over the course of his career, he has fostered and supported many efforts to make the industry better, through education, advocacy and good works. We appreciate Brett’s leadership in NPA and the generous contributions he has made to NPA’s success through his efforts and sponsor partnership with us.”
