National Building Museum Opens House of Cars Exhibit

The National Parking Association (NPA) is partnering with the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, to present a groundbreaking exhibition titled House of Cars: Innovation and the Parking Garage. The exhibition opened on Oct. 17, 2009, in conjunction with NPA's 58th Annual Conference, and was open to the public at the Museum through July 11, 2010. In addition to serving as the Presenting Sponsor, NPA members provided many of the exhibit artifacts through loans and donations.

House of Cars is the first exhibition of its kind to explore parking garages and the parking industry. It presented the history of parking structures, from the first decades of the 20th century to the stylish and innovative buildings of today. The exhibition covered engineering, design, and the future of parking, and its dynamic design and ideas engaged the Museum's visitors of all ages from around the country and the world.

In addition to NPA's Presenting Sponsorship, NPA member Colonial Parking, Inc., of Washington, DC, is a Benefactor of the exhibit, and members Brett Harwood Ventures, Carl Walker Inc., Impark, Tech Painting Company, and WPS North America were Presenting Sponsor Supporters of the exhibit. A traveling version of the exhibit was featured at NPA's 59th Annual Conference in October 2010 in Boston, and will again be in residence at NPA's 60th Annual Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas in October 2011.
